We recently collected two very special Oriental rugs from one of our clients in Chelsea (SW3), London. The client called us after they spotted a number of small moths flying in the drawing room and one of the bedrooms. One was a Persian Tabriz rug which was extremely fine and the other a fine Zeigler carpet, featured in our above image.
We collected the carpets on the same day (free of charge of course!) and took them back to our London workshop for immediate moth treatment. We use organic, water based moth treatment, which is left to soak into the rugs overnight. In the morning, we found several small larvae laying on top of the rugs – success! We repeated the process for several days until there was no further trace of the little critters. This meant that not only the larvae was dead, but the eggs which are laid deep within the rugs were destroyed too.
The rugs were then hand washed by our cleaning team using organic vegetable shampoos and left to dry naturally in the workshops (we never ever use heat!). Once dry, one of the rugs needed some minor re-piling where the moth had eaten the wool, whilst the other simply needed one of the fringes secured to stop it fraying further.
Once ready, we contacted our client and delivered the back to the client, laying them back in situ and supplying non-slip professional rug underlay.
Another moth bites the dust, and another two Oriental rugs beautifully cleaned and repaired here in London.
Many thanks Mr & Mrs E for your kind hospitality and the lovely homemade soup!
